Interview Paper Reflection

Before I started writing my interview essay, I had to interview Nathalie on her subculture, which was soccer. During my interview with Nathalie, I had learned a lot about her like, how she had faced sexism for playing a sport as a girl.  I also learned about how her mom had cancer, which made her not play soccer for her junior year of high school just as she was about to return to soccer as she had played on the track team for both her freshman and sophomore years. When I was interviewing Nathalie, I noticed how her body language changed. For example, when talking about her mom, she got sad but, when we talked about the fun times, she had on the soccer team, she got excited.

Throughout this writing process, I have used 3-course learning outcomes. The first learning outcome I have used is to develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes. I used this learning outcome by coming up with interview questions using the information I was given in the subculture worksheet, interviewing Nathalie, and having Aaron peer review my rough draft to see what I should add or remove to make my final draft more clearer to the reader. I have also used this learning outcome by getting interviewed by Aaron on being Muslim and by peer-reviewing Nathalie’s rough draft for her essay on Aaron being in a Model United Nations club.  The second learning outcome I have used is practice using various library resources, online databases, and the Internet to locate sources appropriate to your writing projects. I used this learning outcome by searching up what a stopper and a sweeper meant when it came to playing soccer as I had no idea, and I need to mention it in my essay as they related to her position on the soccer team which was being a defender. The third outcome I have used is to acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources and draw on these resources to develop rhetorical sensibility. I used this learning outcome by making sure that the reader would understand how soccer is important to Nathalie even though it may just seem to a sport to anyone else.

The genre of this essay is a narrative one as I am retelling Nathalie’s experiences, from when she started playing soccer until today when she is on City College’s soccer team. The exigence of this essay is that soccer is one of the important things in Nathalie’s life as it makes her happy. The purpose of this essay is to explain why Nathalie chose to have soccer as her subculture, which was because playing soccer has led Nathalie into having a strong personality. The audience for this essay is my professor Alyssa and my peers. The context of this essay is I needed to be able to explain why soccer had a huge impact on Nathalie’s life in only 1000 words.
